Rooted in Community, Built on Generosity
The first Hope Chest Thrift Shop opened its doors in late 1998 in Wheeler, Oregon, thanks to the vision and generosity of four families who had recently retired to the North Tillamook Coast.
Inspired to give back and make use of their surplus belongings, the group launched the thrift shop as a way to support their new community.
By early 1999, they made their first charitable donation—a $1000 gift to Adventist Health Tillamook’s hospice program, setting the tone for decades of giving to come.
Since then, Hope Chest Thrift Shops have donated over $2,000,000 to local nonprofits, continuing a legacy of volunteer-driven service and compassion.
